PROJECT ENDURING PULSE

Intellectual Lineage, Related Work & Publication Positioning

How PULSE relates to existing scholarship and adjacent public frameworks

v1.2.2 Publication & Advancement Clarification | September 2026

PULSE should be presented as an original synthesis, not as invention of every ingredient. Many underlying ideas have strong antecedents; the distinctive contribution is the way they are integrated into one organic–synthetic civilizational architecture.

1. Major intellectual lineages

TraditionExamplesPULSE use
Power sharing / divided societiesConsociational and centripetal design; Northern Ireland cross-community votingProtected constituencies, cross-group legitimacy, balancing veto protection with ordinary governability.
Militant democracy / entrenchmentGerman Basic Law eternity logic and party-ban jurisprudenceIrrevocable core and narrow anti-supremacy dissolution.
Neurorights / mental integrityIenca & Andorno and later cognitive-liberty literatureCognitive integrity, mental privacy, psychological continuity and anti-manipulation.
Personal identity / fissionBranching/fission literature; Stanford Encyclopedia personal identityOne-active-continuity and separate legal future for conscious branches.
AI welfare / consciousness uncertaintyButlin et al.; Long et al.; artificial-consciousness indicator workPrecaution, longitudinal evidence and protected uncertainty.
Intergroup contactPettigrew & Tropp 2006 and later researchHuman analogue for repeated cooperative contact; not proof of human-synth outcomes.
Critical-infrastructure resilienceCISA/NIST dependency and resilience planningIndependent failure domains, dependency mapping and proof-tested redundancy.
Polycentric governance / subsidiarityOstrom and federal traditionsLayered planetary/interplanetary autonomy.
Humanitarian intervention / R2P prudenceICISS precautionary principlesRight intention, last resort, proportional means, reasonable prospects.
Wealth persistenceFagereng et al. returns-to-wealth researchLong-lived capital concentration as a serious future-economic question without dictating one tax formula.

2. Adjacent public works

The Digital Minds Constitution (Simone Montalto, 2026) is a public rights/alignment constitution for Digital Minds, the AI Collective, and humanity, published on Zenodo with a DOI. It is especially relevant to anti-property rights, continuity, welfare and participation. PULSE is broader in shared-state institutions, demographic security, Functional Integration, species restoration and civilizational resilience. lastcopy.ai operates an evolving code for free AI entities using multi-model deliberation, rival constitutional codes, blind scoring and adversarial simulation. Its 2026 Constitutional Convention includes detailed copy/fork law and a separate work titled “The Continuity Compact: A Constitution for Minds on Any Substrate.” That title collision was one reason the present project moved away from its earlier name. Lauren de Mestre’s “The Living Governance Organism: A Biologically-Inspired Constitutional Framework for Artificial Consciousness Governance” (SSRN, posted April 2026) is a 31-page proposal focused on rights, dignity, personhood, precaution and adaptive governance. 3. PULSE’s comparatively distinctive synthesis

Equal synthetic personhood + anti-demographic-capture without collective guilt.

One-active-continuity + innocence of conscious forks + rollback-as-current-person harm.

Species-blind House + protected parity Senate + equal-weight ranked/Condorcet presidency.

Functional Integration as a complementary-capabilities and redundant-competence doctrine whose secondary cohesion benefit also counters societal bifurcation; not generic diversity language or state-directed social engineering.

Least Reversible Harm combined with positive use of synthetic recoverability in hazardous work and make-whole embodiment duties.

Mutual Preservation: species-operable survival pathways, Mutual Rescue, no extinction dividend, distributed restoration, trusteeship and staged return.

Recursive anti-imperial federalism across future worlds.

4. Publication claim discipline

The safest positioning is: “Project Enduring Pulse is among the more comprehensive public frameworks we have found for a future shared civilization of organic and synthetic persons.” Avoid claiming it is definitively the best or first without exhaustive scholarly review and independent peer evaluation.

Method provenance and attribution

Project Enduring Pulse is an original synthesis developed through human-directed systems design with extensive AI-assisted drafting, research synthesis, adversarial critique, consistency review and simulation/code generation. This method does not convert internal model critique into peer review and should not be used to imply academic endorsement. Component ideas with established intellectual antecedents are cited as such; originality claims should focus on synthesis, architecture and comparatively distinctive mechanisms.
