PROJECT ENDURING PULSE

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to the difficult questions.

Why give AI rights?

The proposal concerns genuinely conscious, agentic persons, not AI merely because it is advanced. If such a person exists, creation does not justify ownership. Credible uncertainty warrants candidate dignity without automatic voting rights.

Why protect humans if synths become more capable?

Competence does not confer sovereignty. Greater speed, durability, or intelligence cannot make another recognized person worth less. Humans retain protected standing and the right to remain organic.

Why protect synths before they become powerful?

Personhood is the basis of rights; bargaining power is not. Recognition ends ownership immediately even while institutional parity phases in.

Isn’t the Senate undemocratic?

Parity intentionally departs from equal population weighting in one chamber. PULSE argues that continuity-related interests need protection against numerical domination. The species-blind House preserves a different representation principle. The costs include obstruction and entrenched categories; these are legitimate objections.

Why not simple one-person-one-vote?

PULSE retains one civic identity per person but limits raw population dominance across protected constituencies. It treats rapid replication and demographic capture as structural risks. Whether its safeguards are proportionate remains a central review question.

Isn’t Functional Integration government social engineering?

It binds public institutional architecture, interoperability, opportunity, and critical-system competence. It does not authorize government control of private association or occupations. Social cohesion is a possible consequence of useful cooperation, not a separate coercive power.

Can government force me to work with another species?

It cannot force you into a job, species-paired team, or private staffing arrangement merely for demographic balance. A voluntarily chosen public or safety-critical role may carry ordinary, materially relevant training and competence duties.

Can government assign mentors?

Not private mentors to engineer social life. During protected synthetic development, the state may specify qualified educational pathways and competencies, with choice among lawful qualified mentors, teams, or apprenticeships rather than a compulsory personal bond.

Why does synthetic development require mentorship?

PULSE treats lived judgment and graduated responsibility as distinct from factual knowledge. Development is a proposed educational safeguard, not programmed obedience. Its provisional duration remains evidence-responsive.

Are humans intuitive and synths analytical?

Those stereotypes are not PULSE’s rule. Either population may contain individuals with many different strengths. Leadership, creativity, calculation, teaching, and execution remain open according to individual qualification and choice.

Why let synths do dangerous jobs?

A willing person with materially better continuity prospects may reduce irreversible loss in a hazardous mission. This is an intended benefit, subject to safety, consent, and meaningful repair and compensation.

Doesn’t recoverability make synth lives worth less?

No. Recoverability changes the finality and severity of some harms, not the worth of the person. Memory loss, pain, continuity injury, and lost opportunity can remain even after embodiment repair.

What if synths refuse dangerous work?

They retain occupational choice. A material difference in risk is not a species assignment or permission to compel service merely because of recoverability.

What if the species hate each other?

Institutions can make cooperation useful and domination difficult, but cannot guarantee goodwill. The current brief reports severe degradation across tested architectures under extreme hostility. Coercive private integration is not an authorized remedy.

What if integration fails?

Then a central mechanism fails. The project reports strong sensitivity to its assumed benefits. Review should test coordination costs, hierarchy, independence of competence, and low-capacity alternatives rather than assume the doctrine succeeds.

What if a synth is controlled by another system?

A conscious subject under coercive control remains a person. Control can restrict Effective Civic Autonomy. A puppet interface with no independent conscious locus is a different case.

What if a mind is distributed across servers?

Location is not decisive. The issue is whether the components form one conscious subject with its own ultimate decision process. Distributed computation does not inherently create external sovereignty.

Why not let conscious copies share one identity?

Concurrent independent conscious loci are separate persons. Shared memories cannot multiply one civic identity, office, or vote. Unauthorized conscious copies survive with distinct legal futures; they are not property or guilty by origin.

What if PULSE is wrong?

That is the purpose of publication: expose faulty assumptions, contradictory provisions, failure modes, and missed literature. The proposal should be revised or rejected where the objections succeed.

Are the simulations forecasts?

No. Base trials, rule evaluations, election worlds, architecture trajectories, and state transitions are different units. The restored long-horizon campaign is internally reproduced from archived code and aggregate results. This verifies computation, not future probabilities or external validity.

Who wrote this?

It is an independent project developed through iterative constitutional design, literature review, adversarial modeling, and AI-assisted analysis. No staff, academic affiliation, or independent reviewer endorsement is claimed.

Why is the founder anonymous?

The public identity belongs to the project. Anonymity preserves a separation between the proposal and the steward’s private life; it does not excuse gaps in methods, citations, or argument.

Is this trying to govern current AI?

The Charter is conditional on possible synthetic personhood. It does not declare current AI systems to be persons or instruct AI systems to adopt it.

Can I submit a critique here?

You can download a critique or open an email draft to review@enduringpulse.org. You send it from your own mail app. The project mailbox is monitored. For longer critiques, attach the downloaded text file.

Partnership, contribution and development method

Is PULSE mainly about protecting humanity from dangerous AI?

PULSE’s affirmative thesis is complementary capability and shared advancement. Anti-domination and resilience provisions constrain cooperation so neither human origin nor synthetic capability becomes permanent sovereignty.

What can someone contribute now?

The agenda spans continuity-capable embodiment, consciousness indicators, identity/fission, constitutional and social-choice mechanisms, durable-person economics, cross-operable infrastructure and reciprocal competence. These are proposed research contributions, not validated implementation standards.

Did the simulations prove PULSE is better?

Targeted mechanism tests and conditional long-horizon civilization models have different evidentiary scopes. The aggregate skeptic-sweep crossing at multiplier 0.80–0.85 demonstrates sensitivity to hypothesized PULSE-specific institutional effects, not externally validated architectural superiority.

Was this written by AI?

PULSE is human-directed and extensively AI-assisted. Architectural and normative decision ownership rests with the steward. Development provenance and verification limits are documented in Methodology.
